Swap Device Ctrl 0.4 fix autostart

Hallo!

Danke erstmal für das Plugin, aber in welcher hinsicht bringt es einen Vorteil ein Swap device zu verwenden?

Leider habe ich festgestellt das das Swap Device nach einem kompletten Reboot der Box nicht mehr eingebunden wird.
Auch die Option "enable Device Swap on boot" bewirkt nur das es nach einem E2 Neustart noch vorhanden ist.

Aktuelles OoZoon im Flash.

2 GB USB-Stick mit GParted ext3 formatiert.

you need to create a linux SWAP partition using gparted and not EXT3 which is used for the actual storage of files

Du musst den Stick nicht ext3 formatieren, sondern als Linux Swap.

stand ja in der Beschreibung.

Man sollte nach der Nachtschicht ins Bett gehen.

So jetzt hat meine ScanDisk 256 MB CF eine neue Aufgabe gefunden.

Hab das OpenSuse auf dem MacBook gebootet und die CF mit einem USB MultiCardReader angeschlosssen. Den Partitioner angeworfen und CF auf Linux Swap formatiert.

Das Plugin installiert, CF eingesteckt & Box neugestartet.
CF wird als Swapdevice eingebunden und über Speichermangel kann ich jetzt auch nicht klagen

Die Versionsnummer 0.1 auf 0.4 im Plugin sollte man vielleicht im Phyton file updaten,
aber sonst habe ich nix zu meckern

Ja wäre auch gegangen aber vorher mit dd ... habe ich noch nicht probiert

Was wären da die optimalen / richtigen Parameter ?

To setup a swap file, it is necessary to create that file before initializing it with mkswap , e.g. using a command like


# dd if=/dev/zero of=swapfile bs=1024 count=65536


Note that a swap file must not contain any holes (so, using cp(1) to create the file is not acceptable).


mkswap [-c] [-vN] [-f] [-p PSZ] [-L label] device [size]


Options


-c
    Check the device (if it is a block device) for bad blocks before creating the swap area. If any are found, the count is printed. 
-f
    Force - go ahead even if the command is stupid. This allows the creation of a swap area larger than the file or partition it resides on. 
    On SPARC, force creation of the swap area. Without this option mkswap will refuse to create a v0 swap on a device with a valid SPARC superblock, 
    as that probably means one is going to erase the partition table. 
-p PSZ
    Specify the page size to use. 
-L label
    Specify a label, to allow swapon by label. (Only for new style swap areas.) 
-v0
    Create an old style swap area. 
-v1
    Create a new style swap area.

das dd brauchst du doch NUR wenn du ein file zum swapfile machen willst.

probier einfach mkswap /dev/sda (swappen kann man ruhig auch auf das rawdevice) und alle Deine Filem sind weg

Scherz beiseite:

mkswap /dev/sdb und swapon /dev/sdb sollte eigentlich reichen wenn das dein USB stick ist.

ahso ja

wird doch so auf allen swapscripts gemacht. Wollte mal das swapdevice bin probieren. ...
haupsache geht ohne mucken

joh .. dachte auch, ein ganzes device für swap ist so immer zur Verfügung, auch
wenn ein anderes device, was sonst dafür benutzt wird, nicht zur Verfügung steht
oder vom IO besonders viel in Anspruch genommen wird.

Wenn ich noch ein lenny linux auf der Box booten will, dann werde ich es sicher brauchen,
falls 256 MB dafür reichen werden ...
